There’s something fun and exciting for everyone who experiences next week’s Barkly Nature Watch.

Parks and Wildlife Commission NT community engagement officer Susie Armes said it will be a week packed full of interesting activities for the whole family.

“Barkly Nature Watch is a great opportunity for people to join Parks and Wildlife rangers for some fun and informative activities in Tennant Creek,” Ms Armes said.

“The week kicks off with a children’s bird watching activity on Tuesday 18 October at the front of the Tennant Creek Town Library.

“We’ll search high and low for feathered friends and hopefully make some along the way.

“On Thursday 20 October, we’re putting on a twilight bird watching activity at Lake Mary Ann as part of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, with everyone welcome.

“The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is a nationwide citizen science project that involves people all over Australia, recording birds in their local area from 17-23 October, so why not come along and join a Ranger to contribute the project with a twilight bird survey at the lake.”

Ms Armes said that if people weren’t interested in bird watching, they might want to try night walking instead.

“Bring a torch and join a Ranger from 6.30pm on Thursday 20 October at Lake Mary Ann to find out what animals emerge at night,” Ms Armes said.

“This free guided walk is suitable for the whole family, we’ll practice spotlight techniques and try to spy the local nocturnal wildlife.

“Along the walk we’ll need your skills to find species of frogs, spiders, birds and many more.

“To top off a packed week, join a ranger at Lake Mary Ann from 9am on Saturday 22 October with a morning walk in nature, which will be our last walk and last Barkly Nature Walk activity for the year.”
