The Department of Correctional Services is investigating the absconding last night of a 16 year old youth from the Alice Springs Youth Detention Centre.

Eric Ebatarinja scaled an electrified perimeter security fence just after half past six after accessing an outside recreation area and evading Youth Justice Officers who were in pursuit.

NT Police are currently searching for the youth.

Eric Ebatarinja was received into detention on 6 September and was due to appear in the Alice Springs Youth Court on 16 September charged with the aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
