Darwin Waterfront will host the fourth annual “Pop-up Zoo” this Saturday to raise awareness for National Threatened Species Day.

Territory Wildlife Park Director Shael Martin said the Park’s exhibition will include baby hatchling sea turtles for the first time.

“Not only will you be able to see the baby turtles, you can get up close and personal with a range of Northern Territory species including crocodiles, frill neck lizards and snakes,” Ms Martin said.

“The Territory Wildlife Park is at the forefront for education and information when it comes to threatened species in the Top End.”

“We are home to a range of species that are under threat in the wild and this event gives people the chance to learn more about how they can help preserve the unique flora and fauna that make our parks and reserves such great attractions.

"We pay tribute to our unique and rare Territory species in an important follow-up from Wednesday, 7 September, National Threatened Species Day.

“This is about providing an opportunity for different organisations to band together to highlight the vulnerability of our own species here in the Territory.”

The fourth “Pop Up Zoo” at Darwin Waterfront will host many interactive stalls including Australian Marine Conservation Society, Austurtle Inc, Sea Darwin, Crocodylus Park, Conservation Volunteers, Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods, Top End Native Plant Society and Wildcare.

The “Pop Up Zoo” initiative has attracted thousands of people over the past three years, making it a popular annual event. Admission to Saturday’s event is free and will be held at Darwin Waterfront from 9.00am to midday.
