Screen Territory is a proud project partner of an Australian Screen Industry collaboration providing financial support for regionally-based female screenwriters and directors to participate in The Athena Project.
The Athena Project aims to build professional networks, create viable career pathways and leverage initial success in the screen industry.
Screen Territory Acting Business Manager Bridget May said Australia wide collaboration is very important to the screen industry.
Not only is there a lack of female filmmakers breaking through across Australia, but remote regions have trouble accessing initiatives due to distance.
“To have an initiative for emerging female filmmakers, including remote female filmmakers, is great,” Ms May said.
“Supporting emerging filmmakers and giving them access to tangible career progression will help build our industry here in the Territory.
“Commitment was secured from every state and territory funding body in Australia to provide financial support for The Athena Project.
“The additional support from the multiple funding bodies means that a support package of approximately $5,000 will be offered to each participating individual or team selected.
“With applications closing next Thursday, 8 September, I encourage all female Territory filmmakers to put themselves forward for this great opportunity.”
The financial support will be administered by Screenworks, who will also provide ongoing support for 12 months to all participants to assist them in implementing their career plans.
All participants will travel to Byron Bay to undertake a 2-day intensive residential workshop where some of Australia’s most outstanding female filmmakers will help them to develop career plans and identify priority actions to be achieved during the next 12 months.
The two-day Residential Workshop with the selected participants will take place on 9 and 10 November 2016 at The Byron At Byron Resort. A Screen Industry Careers Forum will happen be held the day before on 8 November 2016.
