Transport industry operators can now operate with increased confidence that their vehicles are operating within legal mass limits, thanks to a recent overhaul of the Berrimah weighbridge.
Included in the overhaul were repairs to the approach and departure concrete ramps, replacement of 30 load cells and an overhaul of all steel stops on the load cells.
Advanced Civil Engineering Pty Ltd reconstructed the end walls and new approach and departure ramps and Advanced Weighing Technology NT decommissioned the old load cells and installed/commissioned new load cells.
Weighbridges are used by transport inspectors to determine the mass of a vehicle or trailer for the purposes of registration and legislative compliance and by industry to verify vehicle loading.
The transport industry relies on accurate, reliable and dependable weighbridge facilities to operate efficiently and had previously voiced concerns in relation to the reliability of the 15 year old weighbridge.
The weighbridge had incurred high maintenance costs over recent years due to failures and inaccuracies of the weighing system which have now been rectified.
This $235 000 upgrade will extend the operational life of the weighbridge and minimise closures due to load cell maintenance requirements.
Further works to modernise the ticketing system are also underway and should be completed by December 2016.
