Free Fun for all at the Tropical Garden Fair

Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory

The creation of a signature garden by an international celebrity landscape designer is set to be one of several highlights at next weekend’s Tropical Garden Fair at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens (GBDBG).

GBDBG director Bryan Harty said the free Tropical Garden Fair, held from 10am to 4pm each day on 13 and 14 August 2016, would be jam packed with lots to buy, see and do.

“Support from the Friends of Darwin Botanic Gardens means that entry is free for everyone,” Mr Harty said.

“Sydney-born Michael White, aka Made Wijaya, is one of the world’s leading international celebrity landscape designers with his beautiful creations adorning hotels and other buildings in several countries, including Singapore, India and in particular Bali, where he has lived most of his life.

“Celebrities he has worked for include the late David Bowie, having designed the garden for his Mustique mansion in the Caribbean, and we are delighted to be hosting Made Wijaya next week.

“Other highlights during next weekend’s Tropical Garden Fair include daily workshops, plant sales, garden advice, stunning floral displays, Territory Made Markets and Territory Proud stalls featuring local craft, food and drinks.

“There will also be entertainment for adults and children, with kids able to win prizes at the garden-themed dress up parade with Tinker Bell at 11am on Saturday.

“Tinker Bell will return to the Gardens on the Sunday, hosting a kids’ tea party.

“The Tropical Garden Fair, formerly known as the Tropical Garden Spectacular, really offers something for everyone and we are excited to be hosting it at the Gardens.

“The weekend is also a great opportunity for visitors to walk around our pristine, enchanting gardens and peruse our new African Madagascar area, and stop for a coffee at Eva’s Café.”
