Celebrate World Ranger Day with 4x4 tour at Owen Springs Reserve

Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory

In celebration of World Ranger Day, Parks and Wildlife Commission NT (PWCNT) Owen Springs Reserve rangers are inviting the public to take part in a ranger-guided 4x4 tour around the reserve.

PWCNT Senior Ranger Sheridan Martin said the public were invited to join the scenic tag along tour through the Owen Springs Reserve on the Picnic Day public holiday, Monday 1 August, from 1pm until 6pm.

“Participants of the tag along tour will be joined by a local ranger who will share insights into the reserves fascinating rich history and management,” Ms Martin said.

“The tour will visit numerous points of interest through the reserve, give participants a chance to explore the reserves highlights and provide great photo opportunities along the way.

“You’ll need to have a high clearance 4WD and a camera is recommended as wildflowers are now in bloom, putting on a great display through the reserve.”

Ms Martin said PWCNT were looking for special ways to celebrate World Ranger Day and were excited about getting visitors involved in the celebration.

“World Ranger day is celebrated annually on July 31 to support rangers around the globe. The day recognises the hard work rangers do to protect the world’s natural and cultural treasures. The day also commemorates rangers who have lost their lives or are injured in the line of duty,” Ms Martin said.

"Owen Springs Reserve is a 40 minute drive, 60km south west of Alice Springs and provides an outback four wheel drive experience, a quiet bush setting for camping without facilities and ideal picnicking and bird watching opportunities.”

The ranger-guided tour is free and bookings are essential with strictly limited numbers. To secure your place, please call the Alice Springs Parks and Wildlife office on 8951 8250. Joining instructions will be given on booking.
