The tireless and important work of our hard working rangers, frontline managers and support staff were recently recognised at the Alice Springs Desert Park.
Parks and Wildlife Commission Chief Executive Officer Andrew Bridges congratulated all the nominees and winners and said the awards recognised the contribution of rangers and support staff who provided outstanding work conserving and managing protected areas throughout the Territory.
“The annual awards have been designed to recognise the significant contribution and commitment rangers and support staff make in managing the natural and cultural assets of the Territory,” Mr Bridges said.
“The Northern Territory is home to some of the most beautiful parks and reserves in the world and we have our rangers to thank for that.
“Land and sea rangers are involved in a broad range of
responsibilities from protecting natural areas through fire, plant and animal
pest management to tourism and visitor management through ensuring park
facilities, services, safety, education, cultural heritage, and protecting
heritage sites.
“Any individual working in protected areas, conservation and
management in the Northern Territory were eligible including apprentices,
trainees, school based apprentices, support staff and those working on country.
The high number of nominations show just how valued they all are.”
The Northern Territory Ranger Awards were first held in 2012 and
are continuing to be a popular event.
