As a result of an investigation that the Director-General of Licensing has undertaken into the Darwin North Returned and Services League Sub-Branch Incorporated (Darwin North RSL) pursuant to section 93 of the Associations Act, the Director-General has decided to appoint a statutory manager to administer the affairs of the Association.
The Director-General has given written notice to the Darwin North RSL that pursuant section 78 of the Associations Act, Mr Stuart Reid of Meertens Chartered Accountants has been appointed as the statutory manager.
The appointment takes effect as at 1pm today, 1 July 2016.
The effect of that appointment is that the members of the committee of Darwin North RSL cease to hold office and that the statutory manager takes on all powers and functions of the committee of the Darwin North RSL including the committee’s powers of delegation.
“Investigations undertaken to date into the Darwin North RSL have given me serious concerns as to the continuing financial viability of the Darwin North RSL and most importantly its ability to pay all of its debts as and when they become due,” said Director-General of Licensing Cindy Bravos.
“The appointment of a statutory manager to administer the affairs of Darwin North RSL is in the interests of the members and creditors of Darwin North RSL and is in the public interest,” Cindy Bravos said.
The statutory manager will provide the Director-General a regular report showing how the administration of the Association is being carried out.
