The Animal Welfare Fund Grant Program supports Territory not-for-profit organisations to undertake animal welfare projects.
Last year’s grant recipients, Ark Aid and the RSPCA, recently showed Leo, a seized staff-cross, just how life changing a dedication to animal welfare can be.
Leo was seized by animal welfare officers after his owner failed to get vet treatment for Leo’s leg injury. Leo’s initial prognosis was dire: leg amputation. Thanks to the team at the Ark Aid, Leo’s badly fractured leg was saved and is healing well in a cast.
Leo is now recovering well under the care of the RSPCA. Leo spent some time in the RSPCA’s new, fit-out of purpose Intensive Care Isolation Unit, funded by the 2015 Animal Welfare Fund Grant Program, designed to mitigate risk of disease by quarantining incoming animals.
Leo will soon have his cast removed and be ready to find his new forever home.
2016–17 Animal Welfare Fund Grant Program
The Northern Territory Government 2016–17 Animal Welfare Fund Grant Program supports NT not-for-profit organisations to:
improve animal wellbeing
raise community awareness of responsibilities in regard to animal welfare
assist in progressing good animal management practice, particularly in remote
communities.
Last year several organisations received funding for projects to better carry out their work. The grants enabled these organisations to achieve outcomes through innovative ideas that benefit many sectors of the community.
Eligible organisations can access up to $50,000 per project in grants out of a Northern Territory Government fund of $200,000.
Applications close on Friday 24 June 2016
