Tom Brown roundabout upgrade

Work will soon commence on the upgrade of the Northern Territory’s largest roundabout.

The $692,000 project being undertaken by local contractor Downer EDI Works will see the replacement of the asphalt surface for the Tom Brown roundabout and sections of the Stuart Highway in the Alice Springs region.

Thirty–one workers including two Indigenous employees and five apprentices will be working on the project.

The Tom Brown roundabout near the Gap is the NT’s largest roundabout and is heavily utilised by all Stuart Highway traffic travelling north/south.

The roundabout is named after Tom Brown who was a well-respected project manager who worked for the Northern Territory and Australian governments on virtually every major road in Central Australia.

The road works will commence on 22 May 2016 and take place over three nights from 8pm to 6am to minimise impact on traffic.

Traffic management will be in place during the road works with motorists asked to observe the changed conditions.

The work is being undertaken as part of the Strengthening and Widening Program and is fully funded by the Australian Government.
