New track safety fence for Arunga Park Speedway

Local Alice Springs company, MPH Carpentry and Construction Pty Ltd, has been awarded the contract to replace the track safety fence at Arunga Park Speedway.

The Territory Government has committed $1.85 million to upgrade the sporting facility with a much-needed new track safety fence and an upgraded water reticulation system.

Work on the new track safety fence will commence next week and should be finished by the end of July 2016,  allowing the popular motorsport facility to re-open to the public.

The Arunga Park Speedway has been closed since late last year due to safety concerns associated with the damaged fence.

After more than 40 years protecting both competitors and spectators, the concrete safety barrier collapsed in several sections following heavy rains in Alice Springs at the end of 2015.

A tender has now been advertised for Stage 2 of the upgrade at the complex, to replace the water reticulation system.

The existing water reticulation system has a number of leaks due to its age.

The tender for the water supply reticulation replacement project is due to close at the end of this month.
