Pedal to the metal for massive Darwin Triple Crown weekend
Excitement has shifted into top gear for the 2023 betr Darwin Triple Crown Supercars Indigenous Round, which is set to take over not just Hidden Valley Raceway, but also Darwin this week.
Motorsport fans from all corners of the country will descend on the Top End for one of the Territory’s biggest events from 16-18 June 2023.
But the fun begins tomorrow, when the Night Transporter Convoy rolls into town. Passing through Palmerston on its way from Hidden Valley to Darwin, the convoy will feature a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and digeridoo performance at Raintree Park when the trucks arrive in the CBD.
The fun continues on Thursday, with a driver and rider signing session at Darwin Waterfront. Larrakia Elder Richard Fejo will perform a Saltwater Blessing for those racing, while fans can meet the drivers and riders, as well as check out the show cars and a Nitro Up North display.
At the track, this year’s event features a jam-packed program of Supercars, Australian Superbikes, Porsche Carerra Cup, Aussie Racing Cars and Combined Sedans. The two nights of Nitro Up North, on Friday and Saturday, will feature the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship Grand Final, with the fastest cars on earth.
There will be a range of exciting off-track activities for the whole family to enjoy, such as the Kids Zone, Teens Den, Pit Lane Walk, on-grid Welcome to Country with the national anthem sung by Indigenous performer Liam Stansfield, and live music from the Eastern Arrernte Band.
Fans will again be wowed by Indigenous artwork proudly displayed across the Supercars liveries and a new exhibition, The Gallery, will reveal the artists and stories behind the livery designs. A flyover by an F-35 jet will add an extra level of heart-thumping action.
Paired with the Top End’s perfect weather and incredible tourism experiences, the betr Darwin Triple Crown is a staple on the NT’s events calendar, and a must-do for all ages.
A 3-day Hot Pass costs just $119. One-day tickets are available. To find out more, visit [http://www.darwinsupercars.com.au].
Quotes from Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Suzana Bishop:
“It’s great to see the betr Darwin Triple Crown back in 2023, with a fantastic on and off-track program for fans to enjoy. We’ll all be wondering if anyone will go home with the coveted Triple Crown trophy, which has been designed as a traditional shield by Larrakia artist Trent Lee.
“This incredible event continues to punch above its weight each year, with thousands of motorsports fans making the pilgrimage to the Northern Territory to take advantage of our endless summer, amazing tourism experiences and, of course, the world-class motorsport.
“Events such as the betr Darwin Triple Crown provide significant social and economic benefits for our entire community and offer a unique experience for spectators. Make sure you’re part of the fun!”
