Some of the Northern Territory’s most popular festivals and events will receive national exposure this month thanks to a new advertising campaign by the NT Government.
The advertising blitz, kicking off today, will see new digital videos promoted online in a bid to attract more tourists to the Northern Territory.
“The new campaign will particularly highlight some of the Northern Territory’s regional festivals and events to drive more visitors to extend their holiday in the Territory and get out and explore some of our lesser known towns and tourism attractions,” said Tourism NT CEO, Tony Mayell.
“The Northern Territory is home to many unique events that simply can’t be found anywhere else in the country. From festivals celebrating our rich Indigenous art and culture like the Barunga Festival in Katherine, to quirky events like the annual Beer Can Regatta in Darwin and the Henley on Todd in Alice Springs, there is something to suit all tastes.
“Through this new campaign, we’re letting Aussies know about the extensive range of events on offer in the Northern Territory as well as places to stay, eat and explore particularly in our regions.”
Research from Tourism NT shows the number of Australian holiday visitors to the Northern Territory that include an event in their itinerary has been steadily increasing since 2010.
“It is becoming more and more evident that consumers will plan their NT holiday around a specific event they are interested in and events in general have become a major motivator for travel. In fact, it is nominated as the main reason for travel in the over 50 age group,” said Mr Mayell.
The new events advertising campaign will feature four new digital videos covering four “themes” of events available in the Territory. These are sports, quirky, culture and music/festival.
The four videos feature Tourism NT’s “gone to a better place” messaging to help create a sense of urgency for viewers to “book now” and will be promoted across popular media websites and social media over the eight week campaign as well as local television in Darwin and Alice Springs.
Mr Mayell said the Northern Territory had a great advantage over other jurisdictions with most events falling in the peak tourism season from April – October.
“The Dry Season is in full swing in the Top End and the weather is much cooler in the Red Centre making the Territory the perfect holiday escape,” he said.
“This new campaign will give people a new reason to visit the Territory and encourage those already coming here to stay longer and enjoy a unique event they’ll never forget.”
The new festivals campaign is part of the NT Government’s plan to drive the development of North Australia and build a $2.2 billion visitor economy by 2020.
