Barkly Nature Watch

Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory

Get out and about and become involved in great, free opportunities with Parks and Wildlife Commission NT (PWCNT) as part of the Barkly Nature Watch.

PWCNT Community Engagement Officer, Susie Armes said with the changing of the season, the cooler weather well and truly settling in, it was the best time to get outdoors and find out more about what was in your backyard.

“Thursday 28 April, join us for a spotlight walk to find out more about the creatures that lurk in the dark,” Mrs Armes said.

“Here in the Barkly, there are lots of animals that are nocturnal and they are just waiting to be discovered.

“Learn some new spotlighting techniques, before using them to spot animals as we head on a night walk near Lake Mary Ann.

“Along the way we might be lucky to find giant frogs, glittering spiders, nocturnal birds out catching an evening meal, microbats and other mammals!”

All ages are welcome and participants are encouraged to bring along their own torch, wear sturdy enclosed shoes and apply insect repellent and are asked to meet at Lake Mary Ann in the picnic area at 6:30pm.

“For those looking for something in the early morning, join us on Saturday 30 April from 8.30am for another morning nature walk,” Mrs Armes said.

“Getting out in the natural environment is important for both physical and mental health so leave the working week behind with a refreshing morning walk out at Lake Mary Ann.

“Bring along your nature diary and record the changes as we take a stroll on the walking track.”
