The inaugural Territory Taste Festival will include free activities for the kids this Saturday and Sunday, from 10am–12noon and 2pm–4pm, within the Darwin Waterfront parklands.
All day activities (10am–12noon & 2pm–4pm)
The hilarious local comedian, Amy Hetherington, will MC the two days.
YMCA Kids Club will provide free activities both mornings and afternoons.
“We’re excited to be part of this event for kids, promoting positive relationships with food, healthy eating and an active lifestyle,” Grant Fenton , CEO YMCA said.
“Importantly, we’re teaching kids that food can be fun!”
“Kids can get hands-on with YMCA’s free garden vegetable painting, sensory coloured rice play, apple bobbing, homemade herb dough, egg and spoon race, face painting a friend and edible finger paints.”
Morning activities (10am–12noon)
The Burning Circus will have fun fruit art workshops where kids can make bunting and colourful paper fruit including watermelons, strawberries, oranges and kiwi fruit.
Surf Life Saving NT will get the kids moving on smoothie bikes where they can make their own Watermelon Zing fruit juice.
“The smoothie bikes have been provided by the City of Darwin and are a great way for kids to have fun while creating their very own flavoursome watermelon juice,” Samantha Farrow, CEO Surf Life Saving said.
Young artists from Corrugated Iron will present guests with an art menu for them to select a short performance of their choosing, including circus, music, skits or poetry.
Afternoon
activities (2pm–4pm)
Hyper the Clown will entertain the kids with a fruit balloon twisting workshop, turning ordinary balloons into extraordinary apples and pears.
At 3.15pm each day there will be cameo appearances from two comical Chefs on stilts.
At 2pm on Sunday there will be a Filipino Pinoy Fiesta which will include a cooking demonstration of sizzling skewers of pork, tantalising sweet snacks, and traditional Filipino games on the street.
