Free WiFi at Darwin Waterfront

Tourism NT

Top End tourism is about to become more tech savvy with visitors to the Darwin Waterfront now able to access free WiFi.

The free WiFi is part of the Northern Territory Government’s $1 million two-year roll out program to bring tourism attractions across the Territory into the digital age.

Tourism NT CEO, Tony Mayell, said the Darwin Waterfront was a popular destination for tourists, particularly cruise ship passengers, and the free WiFi will allow Tourism NT to promote other experiences and attractions in the Top End.

“Now more than ever, visitors expect to be connected into technology and improving digital access across the Territory will help develop regional tourism and businesses and encourage visitors to the Territory to stay longer,” Mr Mayell said.

“Free WiFi allows tourists to instantly upload their happy snaps from the Territory to a world-wide audience on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

“It’s well known that people share more photos when they’re able to do it instantly rather than having to wait until they get to the next destination with coverage, so this free WiFi means more opportunities to promote the NT.”

Visitors to the Darwin Waterfront will be able to access the free WiFi from the Recreation Lagoon area, the Wave Pool and the Stokes Hill Wharf Eatery.

Tourism NT has created a log in page, which will collect basic information from the user allowing instant promotion of activities, tours and events across the Territory.

Darwin Waterfront Corporation General Manager, Sam Burke, said the free WiFi was great news for the venue, which attracts over 1.2 million visits each year.

“We have become Darwin’s premier destination for a range of experiences including events, year-round swimming, dining, business and study,” he said.

“WiFi will be a welcome addition to the Waterfront which will not only attract new visitors but also extend the duration of their stay.”

The Darwin Waterfront free WiFi follows on the successful roll-out at the Alice Springs Telegraph station, Wangi Falls (Litchfield National Park), Watarka (Kings Canyon), Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles), the Todd Mall and TIO Traeger Park.
