The Northern Territory will be plated up and served to a global television audience of 1.4 billion across 145 countries in a new series with celebrity super-chef, Sara La Fountain.

Sara and her crew have spent the week travelling through the Northern Territory filming the new series, Sara’s Australia Unveiled, which will feature the NT in three episodes.

“The new televisions series will deliver huge exposure for the Northern Territory and showcase our regions to a world-wide audience,” said Tourism NT CEO, Tony Mayell.

“Sara is an international celebrity and one of the world’s top female chefs so it is a huge coup to have her in the Northern Territory.

“The new series will help boost international visitors to the NT, which is crucial to achieving our goal of a $2.2 billion visitor economy by 2020.”

Filming of the Northern Territory episodes kicked off in Central Australia last week with filming at Ooraminna Station and Alice Springs.

The crew also spent time at the popular Darwin Seafood Market with well-known Darwin identity Ziko Ilic preparing local NT Barramundi and mud crab for Sara who claimed it was some of the best seafood she had ever tasted.

The Top End shoot also included cooking octopus the traditional way with long-time Greek family and owner of Yots tavern, Evan Papadonakis, a visit to Crab Claw Island, Goat Island and Humpty Doo pub on a Heli Pub Crawl, a cultural tour with Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural Tours and a visit to Kakadu National Park, Ubirr lookout and Yellow Waters.

“As well as featuring our unique food experiences and identities, the series will also include all-important information about how viewers can re-trace Sara’s footsteps and experience the Northern Territory for themselves,” said Mr Mayell.

According to the show’s producer Paul Deeming the series will mix food with the natural beauty of Australia and “off the map” adventures with seven 30 minute episodes in seven different outback Australian locations in the NT, Western Australia and Victoria.

“The program will be a celebration of experiences that will both entertain and inspire viewers to find out more about what Australia has to offer,” said Mr Deeming.

“Sara is wild about food and as she explores new previously undiscovered destinations, she will gather local produce masterfully blending ingredients and influences in unexpected ways, combining stylish precision with passionate creativity. The meals she prepares on camera will be seasonal, simple and beautifully presented.”

Sara’s Australia Unveiled is expected to air in August this year on broadcast channels including FOX international in America, Your channel in the United Kingdom, National Geographic’s Nat Geo People channel in Europe and Asia and 24 Kitchen in the Netherlands, Portugal and Turkey.

Along with Tourism NT, Tourism Australia has also assisted with the production of the new series which will help promote the country’s food and wine experiences in key overseas markets.
