Final call for nominations: Bushfires Council and regional Bushfires Committees

Nominations are currently being called for membership of the Bushfires Council and membership of Regional Bushfires Committees.

Bushfires NT Executive Director Mark Ashley said applications were closing next Friday and urged interested members to take this opportunity to apply.

“With only week left to put your hand up for these integral roles, I really encourage those interested to send their application through,” he said.

“The Northern Territory Government is looking for landowners, land managers or others with relevant expertise who can contribute to bushfire management in the Northern Territory.

“The position is most suited to members of the public who are passionate about protecting the Northern Territory’s communities, natural resources, and rural industries against the threat of fire,” Mr Ashley said.

“We’re looking for volunteers who can bring knowledge and skills to bushfires management or future members with skills in broader natural resource management or strategic planning.

“We also encourage nominations be lodged for the position of Chair of the Bushfires Council.”

The Bushfires Council is a statutory body that advises the Minister on the management of bushfires in the Territory.

“Regional Bushfires Committees play a key role in regional bushfire management planning and provide advice and recommendations on regional bushfire management planning and provide advice and recommendations on regional bushfire risks and issues to the Bushfires Council,” Mr Ashley said.

Positions on the Bushfires Council and the Regional Bushfires Committees will become vacant from May 2016. The term is three years.
