The Northern Territory to takeover Federation Square

Tourism NT

One of Melbourne’s most famous landmarks will undergo an “outback” makeover this week when Northern Territory tourism operators takeover Federation Square.

As part of the takeover, a giant outback pub called ‘The Waterhole’ will be set up in the centre of the city to encourage Melburnians to Do the NT.

“This major event at Federation Square is about convincing Aussies that it’s about time they do the NT today and finally tick off that bucket list,” said Tourism NT CEO, Tony Mayell.

At ‘The Waterhole’ visitors will be able to get a taste of the Territory from its iconic wildlife like camels and baby crocs to local NT cuisine like mango ice-cream and barramundi.

Consumers will be able to get a true taste of the Top End through a unique virtual reality experience. State of the art Samsung VR heads sets will take the consumers on a spectacular NT journey through Kakadu and Katherine.

As well as discovering the Territory's adventure-fuelled experiences, visitors will also become acquainted with our growing indie music scene.

On Friday 1 April, Top End band, 'At the Dakota', and NT artists, David Crowe and Andrew Langford, will get the opportunity of a lifetime when they play a free concert at the Federation Square pop-up from 6.30pm to 9pm, showcasing some of the nightlife on offer in the Territory.
