The legendary Andy Warhol Factory Superstar
and New York’s undisputed queen of the underground, Penny Arcade, is coming to Alice Springs!
Penny Arcade will be performing in Alice
Springs to complete her Australian tour prior to her return to the US with her
new double award winning Edinburgh show, Longing
Lasts Longer.
Araluen Arts Centre Director Mark Crees said
he was looking forward to the show, as it had already received rave reviews.
“Following performances at the Melbourne
International Comedy Festival, and seasons in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane,
Penny Arcade is set to bring her remarkable show with her passionate rumination
on love, longing and loss – Longing Last
Longer – to Alice Springs, where I’m sure she’ll be very popular,” Dr Crees
said.
Driven by her magnetic rock n’ roll energy
Penny Arcade’s acclaimed razor sharp satire is mixed live to a euphoric music
soundscape inspired by four decades of pop culture.
Dr Crees said Longing Lasts Longer turns contemporary stand up on its head and
sees audiences thinking, laughing and dancing all at the same time. It also brings to Alice Springs a remarkable
person and an act that will stay with audiences for years.
Since first climbing out of her bedroom
window at age 14, Penny Arcade (aka Susana Ventura) has become one of the most
influential performers in the world.
Recruited by Andy Warhol to be a Factory
Superstar while still a teenager, Penny Arcade then spent over a decade engaged
in globe hopping, performance art and international intrigue before returning
to New York City.
On the themes of the show, Penny said:
"You need to be able to see the alternative in order to live the
alternative… And what's being done now in all of the cities – all over the
world – is removing the alternative, removing the bohemian, taking the rock and
roll, the funk, the poetry right out of it.
“I no longer think one person can change the
world, but you can certainly change the world around you. So show up!”
Penny
Arcade: Longing Lasts Longer is proudly supported by 783 ABC Alice
Springs Radio.
Penny Arcade will be on stage at the Araluen Arts
