Central Australian tourism operators and attractions will receive global attention this weekend with several international journalists and photographers in the Territory ahead of the ‘Field of Light’ launch at Uluru tomorrow.
The media from America, China, France, Italy, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom will showcase the sights and adventure of the Red Centre to millions of readers and potential holiday makers.
“The trip will also highlight some of the more lesser-known attractions of the Centre to encourage travellers to get off the beaten track and explore more of our regions,” said Tourism NT CEO, Tony Mayell.
“The media exposure from this trip will be huge and target international tourists in some of our key overseas markets.
“The Field of Light exhibition, run by Voyages, is unique event that can only be found right here in the spectacular Northern Territory – Australia’s real outback. It will help put the Centre on the map as a must-do holiday and attract more international visitors to the Territory and it’s fantastic to see Voyages continuing to invest into their product and the Red Centre.”
By supporting the international journalist trip, Tourism NT is educating visitors about all the other great things they can do near Uluru when they come to the NT for the Field of Light exhibition.
For example, the international journalists will explore Alice Springs, take a sunset tour of the world-famous Kangaroo Sanctuary, enjoy the unique Spirit of the Outback Dinner at the Earth Sanctuary, take an Outback Balloon ride over the Red Centre, marvel at the beauty of Kings Canyon and the MacDonnell ranges while on a tour with one of our local operators, Wayoutback safaris.
They will also learn about the historic Glen Helen homestead, take in breath-taking views of Watarrka National Park and immerse themselves in our aboriginal culture with local Indigenous tour, Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience. The group will also experience the wonders of Kata Tjuta while at Uluru for the Field of Light launch event.
“This is part of Tourism NT’s marketing strategy to showcase wider Central Australia and encourage visitors to ‘Do different’ when they come to the Northern Territory and see more than ‘just the Rock’,” said Mr Mayell.
The 16 media representatives on the Red Centre trip include journalists and photographers from world-renowned publications like National Geographic, Forbes Life, the New York Times, Nat Geo Traveller in China, China’s Global Times and the UK’s Guardian and Daily Telegraph newspapers.
The Field of Light exhibition by
international artist, Bruno Munro, will see 50,000 solar-powered light spheres
installed at the Ayers Rock Resort. The exhibition opens on 1 April 2016 and
runs until 31 March 2017.
