New and exciting opportunities are being offered to Territorian filmmakers and storytellers through Screen Territory.
Screen Territory, with the support of Screen Australia, is offering Territory screen writers, producers, directors and teams exciting opportunities to develop concepts for series for web distribution through the Illuminator project.
Illuminator aims to support NT storytellers and filmmakers in harnessing the increasing opportunities arising through low budget approaches to creating stories for online distribution.
Illuminator begins with a two-day development Master Class, open to Territorians with an interest in developing online series. The Master Class is being held on the weekend of April 16 and 17.
Screen Territory Director Penelope McDonald said Illuminator would enhance storytelling craft skills of writers in the NT, across different levels of experience.
“It will support the development of scripts for series that can be made with 100% NT locals,” she said.
Screen Territory will be working with acclaimed story consultant Mike Jones.
“Mr Jones has extensive experience in the development of scripts, and particularly in digital interactive media,” Ms McDonald said.
“He lectures in story and writing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School and has co-ordinated multi-platform development programs in Australia and the UK. He has worked with Warner Brothers, Foxtel and Fox TV, and was story editor and co-writer on the cult post-apocalyptic series Wastelander Panda for ABC television.
“Following the two day Master Class, participants can apply for the Intensive Lab, which will support up to four participating writers and teams in developing their ideas into series that are ready to shoot and put up on the web.
“This is an exciting initiative for Territorians, to get NT made stories travelling around the world on the web,” Ms McDonald said.
“Illuminator’s Intensive Lab will run in the manner of a studio, with writing take place during and after the lab.
“Up to four projects will be developed through Illuminator.”
Registrations for Illuminator’s Master Class close Thursday 14 April and applications for the Intensive Lab close on 2 May.
