Territorians now have more streamlined access to mental health services with the launch of the NT Mental Health Line.
The NT Mental Health Line is a 24-hour free and confidential hotline that was previously known as the NT Crisis Assessment and Triage Team hotline.
The new name reflects the service model, which has been redeveloped to ensure people have easy access to expert mental health advice.
Top End Mental Health Service Acting General Manager Richard Campion said the hotline was the entry point to mental health services in the Top End.
“Access to mental health services was identified as the most important requirement for people looking for mental health advice,” he said.
“This new name reflects the changes we have made to the service model so people can get the information and referrals they need efficiently, including for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.”
Changes were made after the Mental Health Access Team identified five main components of its service, including the NT Mental Health Line as being the most important elements in providing an equitable and responsive service.
The Mental Health Line will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will provide a telephone triage assessment and referral service staffed by mental health clinicians. It also provides a NT wide function after hours for Central Australia Mental Health Service.
