The Draft Litchfield Sub Regional Land Use Plan has been released for public discussion.
“The draft plan protects our rural lifestyle by managing growth in Litchfield through a range of residential options in rural activity centres and urban areas,” said Planning Commission chairman, Gary Nairn.
“It includes more detailed planning for rural activity centres in Berry Springs, Coolalinga/Freds Pass, Howard Springs and Humpty Doo, and shows how urban areas including Holtze, Weddell and surrounds will carry the bulk of the growth,” Mr Nairn said.
“The plan also establishes policies to ensure sustainable use and protection of our natural assets, including ground water. In line with community feedback, it no longer includes the Pine Forest as a rural activity centre,” he said.
“This is Stage 2 of the consultation process and follows consultations in November 2015 with the community and stakeholders. In Stage 1, the level of engagement from the community was encouraging – Litchfield people are passionate about their homes and lifestyle and took time to stop and talk with us at markets and shopping centres, to attend briefings and provide submissions.
“We wrote to more than 7100 residents and spoke with around 700 people at industry and group meetings, shopping centres and markets, as well as holding a community workshop with 88 participants. We received 90 formal submissions and a wide range of face-to-face feedback.
“This feedback informed development of the draft plan, which is now ready to view and discuss with us. Once again, we will hold information stalls at local markets and shopping centres – details will be on our website.
“Stage 2 consultations continue until mid-March 2016. Then the revised subregional plan will be developed for exhibition in mid-2016 as a proposed Planning Scheme Amendment to the Northern Territory Planning Scheme – that will be Stage 3 of the process,” he said.
