Residents of Darwin's rural area are being urged to make sure their meter poles are holding up against the wet season.
NT Worksafe Principal Inspector Robin Smith said some rural properties have experienced power disruption after the saddles holding conduits in place rusted away and detached from the power poles.
“A number of conduits are becoming detached from private power poles due to age, corrosion and storms, which can result in loss of power,” he said.
“We urge people to check their meter poles and meter boxes for deterioration and arrange for an electrical contractor to undertake repairs where required.
“Residents should not attempt to repair the issue themselves as a fall from height or electrocution is a real risk when working near the Power Water Corporation service line.”
