Out now: draft Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan

Northern Territory Planning Commission (NTPC)

The draft Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan has been released for comment, with feedback and submissions welcome until mid-December 2015.

It’s part two of a community feedback process that began in September with a consultation paper to start a conversation about future growth in the Alice Springs region, said Planning Commission Chairman Gary Nairn.

“The Draft Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan has been shaped by the first set of consultations -- my thanks to everyone who came to the stakeholder workshop or made a submission,” Mr Nairn said.

“The draft plan focuses on sustainability, catering for economic and community growth in balance with protection of the environment. It establishes an overarching regional framework to manage growth in anticipation rather than in retrospect,” he said.

“The draft plan will be further refined by community feedback over the coming weeks. Your comments will help us finalise a plan to submit to the Minister for consideration.”

During the consultation, the Commission will speak with residents, Indigenous and community groups, and many other members of the Alice Springs community.

There will be information stalls at shopping centres and markets in November and December, with details available at www.planningcommission.nt.gov.au.

“Do look at the plan carefully and send us your feedback – emails, letters, phone calls or submissions – so we can ensure the final plan truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the region,” Mr Nairn said.
