A plan to deliver efficient and sustainable transport that encourages the ongoing development of a liveable and economically vibrant Darwin region has been released for public comment.
The Department of Transport has developed the consultation draft Darwin Regional Transport Plan as a key component of the Northern Territory Government’s Integrated Transport Planning and Investment Roadmap.
It summarises key transport issues for the Darwin region and provides high level, strategic direction for regional transport priorities.
Transport Planning, Policy and Reform acting executive director Simon Saunders said the Plan focusses on integrating transport and land use and planning for public transport, roads, cycling and walking across the Darwin region.
“The draft Plan is based on a range of transport studies and detailed transport modelling and responds to the 2015 Darwin Regional Land Use Plan to ensure effective integration of transport and land use planning,” Mr Saunders said.
It is the first regional Transport Plan to be prepared for the Territory.
“t is expected that further regional plans will be developed to coordinate transport planning for other regions and major centres,” Mr Saunders said.
The Department of Transport is seeking feedback on the draft Darwin Regional Transport Plan to assist in finalising the Plan.
A copy of the draft Plan is available at the Department of Transport’s website at www.transport.nt.gov.au/publications/strategies-and-plans/darwin-regional-transport-plan
