A new bus service into the Darwin Waterfront Precinct will commence next Friday (30 October).
The
new service has been made available following the completion of the Stage 2A
development and opening of Anchorage Court which allows for the bus route to
loop.
Two
new bus stops, on the inbound and outbound side of Kitchener Drive (near the
pedestrian crossing), will be utilised as part of the route 14(c) services.
This means passengers will now have the option of being dropped off close to
the precinct hub; right next to the university, restaurants and parklands.
The
new route 14(c) will deliver 15 services per day on weekdays and eight 14(c)
services per day on weekends and public holidays to the Darwin Waterfront
Precinct (stopping outside the Charles Darwin University Business School). The
route connects with the broader Darwinbus network via the Darwin interchange.
In
addition, the 14(b) services will continue to provide six services per day on
weekends and public holidays to the bus stop near the McMinn Street/Stokes Hill
roundabout.
“We
have listened and responded to the needs of businesses, the university and
passengers who have requested this new service to improve accessibility,” Alex
Rae, Director of Passenger Transport said.
“As
our city continues to grow, we need to ensure we are planning for the future
while providing options to meet the needs of all Territorians.”
“Since
it was developed six years ago, the Darwin Waterfront has grown as an iconic
destination for visitors and locals; it’s no wonder when you look at what’s on
offer,” Alana Madden, Darwin Waterfront’s Business Development Manager said.
“The
variety restaurants, cafes and bars make the Waterfront a mini-food metropolis,
while the Wave Lagoon and Recreation Lagoon have become a favourite retreat for
locals.”
“The
Darwin Convention Centre continues to attract a variety of business and public
events, and the opening of the Charles Darwin University Business School
located just minutes’ walk to the CBD, has attracted local, national and
international students (both VET and higher-education).”
“In
addition, the precinct boasts a year-round events program which continues to grow each year. 2014–15 saw a record 243 events which included everything
from cultural events, live music, school holiday activities, family fun days,
art fairs and exhibitions.”
