The Department of Correctional Services is investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape last night of three detainees from the Alice Springs Youth Detention Centre.

The three males, two aged 16 and the other 15, are alleged to have assaulted a Youth Justice Officer before scaling the detention centre's perimeter fence and escaping on foot at about 11pm.

Members of the public are urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 if they see the escapees or know their whereabouts.

The injured Youth Justice Officer was taken to the Alice Springs hospital where he remains receiving for treatment for facial injuries.
