Builders’ guide to keeping stormwater clean

Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NTEPA)

The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) has released a handbook to assist building practitioners in managing erosion sediment control on their building sites.

The Chair of the NT EPA, Dr Bill Freeland, said, “As we all know, the Wet season is nearly upon us and with it brings certain challenges. That’s why we’ve decided it’s timely to release Keeping Our Stormwater Clean – A Builder’s Guide."

For the NT EPA one of these challenges is the increased potential for pollutants from building sites entering stormwater systems and the creeks and rivers that form part of the Darwin Harbour catchment.

Managing erosion and sediment on building sites is important to ensure that stormwater that is sediment laden or contaminated does not enter stormwater systems.

Dr Freeland thanked Melbourne Water and the Victorian EPA for allowing the NT EPA to publish the guide which would help builders comply with local regulations.
