Tourism NT has teamed up with Chinese actress and model, Lily Ji, to produce a new Northern Territory travel documentary that will help attract more Chinese visitors to the NT.
The one hour documentary, called “Catch the Sunset”, will feature some of the Northern Territory’s iconic locations and tourism experiences.
“China is Australia’s fastest growing tourism market and the documentary will put the NT on the radar of millions of Chinese tourists as a must-do holiday,” said Tourism NT CEO Tony Mayell.
“Chinese travellers love natural beauty. In fact, in a recent survey by Tourism Australia, natural beauty was identified as the number one thing they are looking for in a holiday.
“Whether it’s the spectacular waterfalls at Litchfield, stunning sunsets in Darwin, the majestic MacDonnell Ranges or breath-taking Uluru – we look forward to showcasing our stunning sights to potential Chinese tourists in this exciting new documentary.”
Lily Ji is considered a rising star in China with more than 40,000 followers on China social media platform, Weibo. She has appeared in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Transformers 4′ and is soon to appear in another Hollywood film, ‘Skiptrace’ with Johnny Knoxville and Jackie Chan. Lily has also modelled for Bulgari, Hermes, Christian Dior, Prada, Ferrari, Georgio Armani, Porsche and Chanel.
The documentary will see Lily visit Darwin, Arnhem Land, Litchfield National Park, Alice Springs, West MacDonnell Ranges and Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park over 10 days.
The documentary will see Lily on a “quest” – a popular theme in Chinese sagas – to catch the sunset, or sunrise each day while experiencing iconic NT landscapes.
“I’m looking forward to visiting the Northern Territory and fulfil a dream I have had for many years to see Uluru, the Big Red Rock,” said Lily Ji.
The new documentary is part of the NT Government’s plan to attract 30,000 visitors from Greater China by 2020 to help build a $2.2 billion visitor economy.
“China is Australia’s fastest growing tourism market with more than 930,000 visitors last financial year according to Tourism Australia,” said Mr Mayell.
“Last financial year, visitors from Greater China to the NT increased by 9 per cent to 14,000 – but we want more and the Lily Ji documentary will help raise the awareness of the NT as a holiday destination and inspire more Chinese travellers to include the NT as part of their Australian holiday itinerary.”
The Lily Ji documentary is being produced by local production company, Simon Says, and is expected to air in China next year.
