We want to hear from you on Litchfield land use

Northern Territory Planning Commission (NTPC)

A consultation paper released today by the Northern Territory Planning Commission calls for input into the future of the Litchfield subregion.

Planning Commission chairman Gary Nairn said the paper explains the process of preparing a subregional plan as well as discussing the profile of Litchfield subregion now and into the future.

“We are seeking community feedback upfront to ensure we have a plan in place that balances population growth while maintaining a valued rural lifestyle,” Mr Nairn said.

“Planning for future land use is important to ensure that infrastructure and services keep pace with the changing needs of a growing community.

“The subregional land use plan will focus on managing growth in Litchfield and provide detailed planning around identified rural activity centres in Berry Springs, Coolalinga/Freds Pass, Howard Springs, Humpty Doo and the Pine Forest, while preserving the rural lifestyle enjoyed by residents.

“It will consider assets within the subregion including natural resources such as water, extractive minerals and agricultural and horticultural soils.

“The consultation paper discusses land to support commercial and community uses and a variety of residential options in rural activity centres, rural lifestyle areas, urban areas and adjacent areas.

“It looks at a network of transport and utility corridors for efficient movement of people and goods.

“Your thoughts, comments, questions and feedback will help us to develop a draft subregional plan for further consultation.

“Say hello to us when we are out and about during October, or provide your feedback direct to the Commission,” Mr Nairn said.
