Parks and Wildlife Commission of the NT (PWCNT) will be presenting a talk on Aboriginal culture at Simpsons Gap on Sunday, 20 September.
PWCNT Ranger and Traditional Owners Dale Campbell and Gaylen Mentha said people were invited to Simpsons Gap for the A Taste of Culture presentation about the way Aboriginal people used the surrounding land.
“Simpsons Gap is a place of high importance for local Aboriginal people and through this presentation we will be showing and discussing how Aboriginal people survived for so long in Central Australia, specifically the Simpsons Gap area,” said PWCNT Ranger Dale Campbell.
“The area has been an important place to the Arrernte people for hundreds of years and it is still used even today.
“In our talk we focus on how the land was used for survival, including knowledge on bush foods, plant uses, weapons and tools.
“Participants will have a chance to try their hand at throwing a spear and try kangaroo tail cooked in hot coals.”
The walk and talk will start at 10:30 am; participants should meet at the Simpsons Gap shelter.
This is a free event, however bookings are essential and can be made by phoning 8951 8247.
