The Department of Transport has cut red tape by streamlining the development approval process, with the release of the Development Guidelines for Northern Territory Controlled Roads.
Department of Transport Chief Executive Andrew Kirkman said the guidelines explain the process and requirements for construction on roads and road reserves managed by the Northern Territory Government.
“The introduction of these guidelines is a first for the Territory and we’re confident they will streamline the approval process and improve efficiency,” Mr Kirkman said.
“When construction and development is likely to have an impact on the road network, the guidelines provide clarity for developers around their obligations and detail how approval is granted.”
“With over 22,000 kilometres under the care and control of the NT Government and the rising number of development applications per year likely to impact on the road network – this initiative supports a range of users including developers, builders, design consultants and government officers.”
“I encourage all of those who are preparing development applications to review the guidelines and meet with the department in the early planning phases to ensure all factors are taken into consideration in the first instance,” added Mr Kirkman.
The guidelines were prepared in consultation with the development industry and other jurisdictions, as part of the Northern Territory Government’s commitment to reducing red tape.
