The Department of Transport is calling for community and industry groups to have their input into the draft Roads and Bridges Strategy before Monday 14 September 2015.
Department of Transport Chief Executive Andrew Kirkman said feedback from the community and industry is essential to help plan the future development of the Northern Territory’s network of roads and bridges.
“We are encouraging the community and industry to share their thoughts on how we prioritise investment in roads and bridges, as well as their ideas on future transport, freight and logistics requirements,” Mr Kirkman said.
“The strategy encompasses five strategic objectives including Unlocking Economic Development, Providing Equitable Access, Integration of Planning and Improving Asset Condition and Road Safety. These five objectives are used as criteria to prioritise investment in roads and bridge infrastructure.”
“The Strategy also includes an investment plan for road projects occurring now and well into the future, providing longer term certainty for developments, industry and community.”
“Stakeholder consultation is vital to ensuring the Strategy can achieve a safe and efficient road network that adapts to growth and change, and a road investment plan that responds to the needs of the Territory.”
The draft Roads and Bridges Strategy was published on the Department of Transport website on 20 July and an extensive eight week consultation period is currently underway. Submissions are open until Monday 14 September 2015.
