The 2015 Red Centre Bird Festival is full of fabulous activities that will keep all bird lovers entertained.
“This is a great opportunity for people to learn about birds, bird watching and how they can get more involved and further enjoy the great outdoors of Central Australia,” said Scott Pullyblank, Curator of Life Sciences at Alice Springs Desert Park.
“This year’s Red Centre Bird Festival showcases two highly respected speakers.
“The first speaker is Tim Low, a prize-winning author, who will discuss how birds came to be so extraordinary and how ‘song’, through birds, started in Australia.
“The second speaker is Simon Cherriman, a naturalist and filmmaker, Simon will present his very own one-hour documentary “Where do Eagles Dare?”.
“As an added bonus the staff at the Alice Springs Desert Park will present some of their Wedge-tailed Eagles prior to the documentary screening so festivalgoers can get up close and appreciate these magnificent creatures.
“Local schools have recycled calico bags on which they have unleashed their artistic talents with a bird theme to play their part in creating some amazing bird quilts and showcase the talent we have in Central Australia.”
The Red Centre Bird Festival runs over five days from the 19 to 23 August. It is shaping up to be full of activities for people of all ages.
Other festival highlights include guided trips to locations around town with an expert bird watcher, Breakfast Bird Walkabouts, Bird Art in the Park exhibition, a Junior Bird Lovers activity and a 4x4 Bird Tag-along.
There are plenty of activities to keep bird lovers, and would be bird lovers, of all ages interested.
The Red Centre Bird Festival is in collaboration with BirdLife Central Australia, Alice Springs Desert Park, Parks and Wildlife Commission and the Friends of the Desert Park.
All events are free once you have entered the Desert Park. A program can be downloaded from www.alicespringsdesertpark.com.au/plan/events.shtml
