Join a Parks and Wildlife Commission NT ranger on a beginner’s guide to bird watching, and discover another fun way to get out and about in nature.
“From people who just want to identify the birds in their backyards to those who want to spot every species in Central Australia, this activity is the place to start,” said Kaitlyn York, Ranger at Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park.
“At ‘Become a Birdwatcher’, participants will learn the ins and outs of birdwatching and try it out with the guidance of a park ranger.
“Participants will learn to identify and hopefully spot some local bird species like fairy-wrens, finches, honeyeaters and birds of prey.
“Learn about everything you need, where to go and some basic techniques for identifying feathered friends.
“The aim of the activity is to inspire people to get out onto park and make everyone confident to get out and give bird watching a go.
“Get some practice with a short guided walk to see how many local birds can be identified.”
You’ll need your own hat, sturdy shoes and water, camera and binoculars are optional. Meet the Ranger at Cassia Hill Walk, Simpsons Gap at 10am, Sunday 16 August.
The bird watching guided walk is free, but bookings are essential as numbers are limited. Please contact Susie Pendle on 8951 8247 or email susie.pendle@nt.gov.au for more information.
