Learn how to maximise your club’s use of NT Government sports funding

Does your club want to equip itself better to attract more members? Would your club like to increase its junior membership more effectively through the Sport Voucher scheme? Which grants programs can your club apply for and where do you even start?

If you’ve got questions about how your club can improve its ability to provide opportunities for Territorians to get active, the Department of Sport and Recreation invites you to come along to a Sports Chat information session near you from this week to learn more about the funding programs run by the department.

“The Department is committed to building the capacity of the sport and active recreation sector to encourage more Territorians to get active and to experience the health and wellbeing benefits that come from taking part in some kind of physical activity,” said Director Sport and Recreation Development Zelma Collins.

“The Department administers a range of grant programs which provide funds to sport and active recreation providers to offer an improved experience of sport and active recreation in the Territory.

“These grants programs include smaller grants of up to $5000 under the Grass Roots Development program, which is now open all year with three assessment periods. New equipment, running events to increase participation, and up-skilling of club volunteers are just some examples of eligible projects under this program.

“There’s also the Facility and Capital Equipment (FACE) program under which organisations can apply for up to $50,000 over one year or up to $100,000 over two years for the development of facilities and purchasing of major equipment. The latest round of this program opened 21 July and will close 23 September, with a soft close 23 August allowing applicants to receive initial feedback on their application.

“The Sport Voucher scheme aims to get the Territory’s school students involved in some form of sport or active recreation, and new vouchers for Term 3 have just been issued, so come along and learn about how your club can maximise this scheme.

“These information sessions will offer clubs and organisations the opportunity to talk to departmental staff about how to maximise your club’s chances of a successful grant application and how to make the most of Department funding programs to enhance participation in sport and active recreation.”
