NTPS employees generosity, breaks record again

Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment

Last financial year Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) staff gave generously through the Payroll Giving Program, donating a record breaking $76,904 to charity.

The Payroll Giving Program provides NTPS staff with the opportunity to regularly donate to registered charities through their pay each fortnight through the internal employee system MyHR.

Commissioner of Public Employment Craig Allen said he was yet again, impressed by the generous nature of his work colleagues.

“Staff have responded enthusiastically to the program. Each year since its inception the amount given has doubled. Which is a fantastic effort!” Mr Allen said.

This year money was donated to 56 charities, with the RSPCA, Medecins Sans Frontieres Australia (Doctors Without Borders) and the Thin Green Line Foundation receiving the most support.

“The Payroll Giving Program provides staff with the opportunity to demonstrate community spirit, and build stronger relationships with community organisations.”

“The average fortnightly donation was $16.52 and while that might not seem like a lot, every little bit adds up. For example $20 a month to Medecins Sans Frontieres Australia can provide a month of clean drinking water for 40 refugees or $30 a month can help shelter and care for a neglected dog at the RSPCA,” Mr Allen said.

The Department of Health, NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services and the Department of the Chief Minister were the top three agencies that donated the most.
