Pedal the Park

Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory

Make the most of the winter weather and join a Parks and Wildlife Commission NT ranger on a guided bike ride along the Simpsons Gap Bike Path.

Senior Ranger at Simpsons Gap in Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, Mark Anderson, said this activity is perfect for the whole family; riding along the sealed path is a great introduction to the beauty of the MacDonnell Ranges – by bike!

“Lots of people already use the track for fitness, fun and to tour the environment at a steady pace,” Mr Anderson said.

“Being able to ride the sealed path, without vehicles and the noise that is day to day life, is a great way to unwind and maintain your fitness.

“This 9km guided ride, takes in only part of the 17km track, but meanders through the landscape, rich with birdlife, plants and animals.

“The activity is a great start for those who have thought about riding the path but haven’t yet had a chance to check it out.

“A bike ride along the Simpsons Gap bike path is a fun and health way to enjoy the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges.”

You’ll need your own bike, helmet and water. Meet the Ranger at Flynn’s Grave at 9am, Sunday 26 July.

The Simpsons Gap guided bike ride is free, but bookings are essential. Contact Susie Pendle on 8951 8247 or email susie.pendle@nt.gov.au for more information.

“If you are unable to make the bike ride, make sure you check out the other guided walks and talks as part of the Territory Parks Alive program,” Mr Anderson said.

“From May to September there are a variety of activities including ranger guided walks, cultural talks, campfire talks, slideshows, displays and activities held at parks and reserves right across the Territory.”

The activities cater for people of all ages and provide a fantastic educational way to enjoy our parks.Media Note: for more information please contact Mark Anderson, Simpsons Gap Ranger, 8955 0310 or Susie Pendle, Community Engagement Officer, 0401 112 525 or 8951 8247.
