Get out and about this school holidays and enjoy what’s on offer in Parks and Reserves around Central Australia!
(PWCNT) Community Engagement Officer, Susie Pendle said the Alice Springs Telegraph Station would be hosting a week of free, fun and family friendly activities to kick off the school holidays.
“Children aged between 6 – 12 years old who love the outdoors and getting hands-on with nature will be able to take part in a different activity each day of next week,” Ms Pendle said.
“Discover how to read animal tracks and traces, search for the many whiskered, mighty mini beasts, learn the secrets of desert plants and spot some beautiful birds.
“As the finale on Friday 26 June, children can take on the role of nature detective and follow the clues as part of the Alice Springs Telegraph Station’s biggest discovery adventure.
“The program is all about getting families out and about in the park, make the most of the amazing winter weather at the moment it’s a great chance to make the most of what’s on offer.
“Each activity has lots of information and take-home ideas to make your next park experience a special one. Come along wearing sturdy shoes, a hat and bring along a water bottle,” Ms Pendle said.
The daily activities start at 10am from Monday, 22 June to Friday, 26 June, each child must be accompanied by a guardian and meet at the Telegraph Station Picnic Grounds. For more information on the activities, please call 8951 8248 or email susie.pendle@nt.gov.au
Back to Morse Week also starts at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historic Precinct on Saturday 22 June. Back to Morse week is a celebration of the historic overland telegraph line, head down and visit the volunteers from the Morsecodian Fraternity to send your own free morse code message anywhere in Australia until Sunday 28 June.
The Old Telegraph Line will spring to life with the sound of morse signals. This is a great opportunity for young and old to experience the history of Australia’s first speedy communications link with the world.
Also continuing throughout the school holidays is the Territory Parks Alive Program, featuring talks and walks in Parks and Reserves across the Territory. With opportunities to discover more about local wildlife, experience the great outdoors, share a chat over a campfire and meet a local ranger.
