Online vehicle booking system now active

Territorians have acted on the Department of Transport’s message that from Sunday they need to  book online to have their light vehicle, trailer and light commercial passenger vehicle inspections done at the Goyder Road MVR in Darwin.

The Department of Transport Chief Executive, Ms Clare Gardiner-Barnes said, “Advance bookings for next week are quite heavy so it’s great to know vehicle owners have been quick to act on the opportunity to book online for inspections.“

The service is part of MVR’s ongoing reforms to streamline services.

The advance online vehicle booking system will reduce waiting times and improve overall efficiency by allowing people to make an appointment up to five weeks in advance at a time and day that suits them best.

“For example, if you’re running late or something comes up last minute, you can manage your booking online and rebook for a more suitable time,” Ms Gardiner-Barnes said.

This project is an extension of the current system which will now allow customers to make bookings on weekdays.

There will be a dedicated iPad in the MVR office on Goyder Road, Parap, on which customers can make their booking. The booking system can be accessed on any personal computer or smart phone.

A visit to a local mechanic is an alternative option for an inspection.  Vehicle and trailer owners, car hire companies and cabbies are all encouraged to consider booking in at their local mechanic, as this is an ideal way to combine the required inspection with a regular service.

Heavy vehicles are not effected by the online booking system and there will continue to be a dedicated inspection lane at the MVR test shed for heavy vehicle inspections (Monday-Friday only).

Daily opening hours of the facilities: Monday to Friday 8.00am - 3.30pm; Saturday 8.45am - 11.30am
