Wave Lagoon Temporary Closure 11 to 29 May 2015

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

The public is advised that the Darwin Waterfront Wave Lagoon complex will be closed temporarily for programmed maintenance from Monday 11 May 2015 to Friday 29 May 2015 and reopened on Saturday 30 May 2015.

Maintenance of the facility is necessary to ensure the Wave Lagoon continues to provide a reliable, safe and enjoyable experience for locals and visitors.

This programmed maintenance can only be carried out during the Dry Season. The Corporation has reviewed visitation numbers from previous years, and although there’s never a good time to close the Wave Lagoon, these works have been programmed to reduce impact and avoid peak usage by locals (during the Easter, long weekends and mid-year school holiday breaks) and to avoid a closure during the height of the tourist season.

The Darwin Waterfront Corporation apologises for any inconvenience caused by this closure.

During the closure, the Recreation Lagoon and its beach will remain open for patrons to enjoy a free swim in fresh sea water with lifeguards on patrol from 9am to 6pm. The Recreation Lagoon offers a natural swimming environment with mesh screens in place over the pumps to reduce the risk of marine stingers entering the lagoon.

There will also be a program of free events and activities for locals to enjoy during this time, including live music on Sundays at the Recreation Lagoon, a free movie night (Frozen PG) on Saturday 16 May, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra Concert on 23 May and Harmony Soiree on 30 May.
