A new exhibition featuring covers from the NT News is set to open at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) on Saturday 2 May.
YES, IT’S REAL! Legendary Covers from the NT News celebrates the Territory’s unique and sometimes irreverent local newspaper.
First launched in February 1952 the NT News continues to be the voice of the Territory. It is a paper with a bold, unique and unashamedly Territorian character.
“The NT News with its unrivalled mastery of the ambiguous headline has captured the imagination of globally loyal audience” MAGNT Director Pierre Arpin said.
From the first edition and with more than 100 NT News covers on display, you'll notice a winning formula – a great photo, a cheeky headline and, ideally, one of the three Cs: Crocs, Cyclones or Crime. And if they run out of those, there’s always Cursing Cats, Creatures from outer space, Cane toads, Critters or Copulating Couples in public.
“It’s great to see over 60 years of history from the NT News and the territory in the one room” Mr Arpin said.
The exhibition is free and will be open to the public until 12 July 2015
Viewer discretion is advised and admission is free.
