Come and see what makes NT parks and reserves so amazing

Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory

Visitors to many of the Territory’s parks and reserves will get to immerse themselves in a living cultural landscape as part of this year’s Territory Parks Alive activities.

Parks and Wildlife Commission NT (PWCNT) Central Australian Parks director Chris Day said highlights include today’s nature talk at Ormiston Gorge in Tjoritja /West MacDonnell National Park  and tonight’s campfire talk at Finke Gorge National Park.

“Territory Parks Alive is a great way for locals and tourists to visit our parks and reserves and learn more about them direct from park rangers, guides and traditional owners,” Mr Day said.

“Today’s 3.30pm nature talk at the Ormiston Gorge will teach visitors how to recognise animal tracks and traces.

“And tonight’s 7pm campfire talk at Finke Gorge National Park will give visitors the opportunity to join a ranger and learn about the Park’s incredible natural values and how the biodiversity is protected.”

PWCNT Northern Australian Parks director Neva McCartney said more than 12,500 locals and visitors enjoy the free ranger guided walks and talks across the Territory each year with Barra Bites just one of several Top End highlights this year.

Barra Bites will give visitors to Howard Springs Nature Park the chance to join a ranger as they hand feed breakfast to barramundi and turtles in the huge spring-fed pool,” Ms McCartney said.

“People attending Barra Bites might also get the chance to feed the barra and turtles as well.

“Other highlights this year include ranger talks at Berry Springs on Sundays from 21 June to 19 July where visitors will learn what it means to Be Crocwise and how our rangers manage crocodiles in our parks and reserves.

“And visitors to Nitmiluk National Park will learn about the life of a ranger and what their daily duties involve, and over at Leilyn (Edith Falls) visitors will learn about how and why fire is used as one of Park’s important management techniques.”
