The Department of Transport is holding a Family Open Day at the Parap Road Safety Centre, on Saturday 18 April from 9am – 1pm.
Department of Transport Chief Executive Clare Gardiner-Barnes said, the Family Open Day will raise awareness of bicycle safety, promote the Parap Road Safety Centre and the Government’s bike and road safety education services.
“This is a family friendly event where parents can bring their children to practice bike riding in a safe off road environment.” Ms Gardiner-Barnes said.
“The Parap and Newland Park Road Safety Centres aim to teach children bicycle and road safety in a fun and interactive way using the miniature road system in conjunction with classroom theory sessions.”
“There will be plenty of activities such as; giveaways, colouring in, appearances by Hector the Road Safety Cat, free sausage sizzle by Darwin Lions Club and free bike safety check by PEDALS NT. Community members are encouraged to bring along their bike, or utilise one of the centres.”
The Parap Road Safety Centre in Holtze Street is available now for school and community groups to undertake free bike education sessions.
The event is one of many events being held as part of National Youth Week 10-19 April 2015.
