Representatives from the Department of Business, the Chamber of Commerce and Motor Trades Association NT will promote the Northern Territory as a place to live and work at a Newcomers Network event in Melbourne this Saturday 18 April 2015.
The Northern Territory Government attends expos to attract workers to the Territory and promote hard-to-fill jobs on behalf of local businesses.
The Newcomers Network event is being held in the Melbourne Convention Centre and is the first of three such events. Similar events will take place in Perth on 6 June and Brisbane on 20 June.
Northern Territory employers who have vacancies that they are unable to fill from within the Territory labour market are encouraged to lodge position descriptions which will be displayed at these expos.
The Northern Territory Government is committed to jobs for Territorians first, then seeking workers from interstate, and then from overseas and recognise that some Territory employers are finding it difficult to recruit suitable staff to some jobs. Expo’s are a great opportunity to attract workers who wish to live and work in the Territory and who will expand and diversify the Northern Territory’s skill base.
Key industry associations are partnering in these activities with government because they recognise that there are hard-to-fill jobs in their industry, and this is an opportunity to engage with potential workers.
Organisers for the Newcomers Network anticipate that the event will attract around 650 people in the fields of engineering, health/ medical, ICT, finance and trades.
Territory employers are encouraged to submit positions that they have been unable to fill for display at the expos. Job vacancies can be emailed to migration@nt.gov.au.
