The Territory Wildlife Park (TWP) is installing its latest art commission this week in preparation for the Easter break and school holidays.
Territory Wildlife Park Artistic/Narrative
Officer, Jasmine Jan said local artist Techy Masero was commissioned to produce
a collection of lanterns to provide ambient lighting for evening events are the
Park.
“Techy has created oversized
fibreglass and metal framed animal and pendant shaped lanterns that provide a
visual spectacle of artistic interpretations of the native wildlife we have on
Park,” Ms Jan said.
“Techy has built a python, four
hanging flying foxes, four archerfish, a pig-nosed turtle and two magpie geese
lanterns.
“Artists from the TWP’s
Artist-in-the-Park program, TWP staff and students from the Batchelor Institute
of Indigenous Tertiary Education have assisted in giving each lantern its own
unique character by painting them with intricate and striking designs.
“The lanterns will be installed
throughout TWP at our train stations and will provide another collection of amazing artworks
that visitors to the Park will be able to enjoy.”
The Territory Wildlife Park is a
45-minute drive south of Darwin, on Cox Peninsula Road next to the Berry
Springs Nature Park.
