The Spyglass Gypsies will bring a modern take on the traditional gypsy jazz style to the stage of the Araluen Arts Centre on Saturday, 18 April.
Araluen
Arts Centre director Tim Rollason said the quintet released their debut album
in February 2014 and are now set to bring their energetic, brilliant and playful
music to Alice Springs as part of their 2015 national tour.
“The Spyglass
Gypsies combine French gypsy songs with their swinging original music that
brings the bygone days of bohemian Paris into the present day,” Mr Rollason
said.
“They
feature the lyrical sounds of the accordion, clarinet and the percussive ‘la
pompe’ of gypsy guitars.
“The group
formed in 2010 through studying and performing together in various jazz
projects and have appeared at many notable venues and jazz festivals, including
the 2013 Oz Manouche Gypsy Jazz Festival in Brisbane and the 2014 Red Earth
Festival in Karratha.
“The
Spyglass Gypsies comprise of Richard Ashby and Cameron Jones on Manouche
guitars, Loretta Palmeiro on clarinet and soprano saxophone, Andrew Scott on
accordion and Shannon Haritos on double bass.”
Spyglass
Gypsies will be on stage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Saturday, 18 April at
8pm.
Tickets are $39
for adults, $35 for concession and $32 for Friends of the Araluen Arts Centre
